12 Ways to Prepare Your Condo for the Rainy Season

verybody loves summer but unfortunately, not all are head over heels for the rainy days. While they bring growth to crops, many are troubled by it in the city, even to those who are homeowners. Now that the country is set, once again, to experience months of torrential downpour and thunderstorms, the time has also come to prepare, not just ourselves, but our homes for the wet season.

Check out these tips on how you can prepare your condo during the rainy season and stay warm and dry:

Check your condo’s windows and glass doors for leaks

High-rise buildings are more prone to strong rains batting against your windows and glass doors. To ensure that the rainwater won’t seep in, check if your windows have rubber sealants attached to its frame. If there are none, ask a professional what to do to keep your windows tightly sealed.

Prevent metal corrosion

The damp and humid air inside your condo unit allows rust to develop quickly in your unit’s metal fixtures. This can particularly happen inside your bathroom or any enclosed space. You may apply grease, a rust-proof paint, or wax on the metal fixtures to avoid corrosion.

Bring the plants inside

If you have a balcony, your plants will be prone to very strong winds, especially if you are in the upper levels. Bring them inside to protect the plants from being uprooted and the leaves from tearing apart.

Prepare a rack for wet shoes, umbrellas, and clothes behind the door

Prepare a small laundry basket for your wet clothes and umbrella, and a separate one for your shoes and slippers near the door before walking around the unit especially if you’re drenched from the rain. This will prevent any water drippings on the floor that could cause damage to your flooring.

Ventilate your condo

Since windows and doors are shut most of the time during the rainy season, there is a tendency for the air inside the room to become damp. Air out your room once the weather is warm to avoid your unit from having a stale odor.

Keep your floors dry and clean with disinfectant

Wet floors are prone to bacteria growth. If you have kids going around with wet shoes or slippers all the time, the bacteria can accumulate faster. Cleaning agents with disinfectants can prevent this from happening.

Stock up on emergency supplies and groceries

There will be days of nonstop rains that could prevent you from going to the grocery to buy your supplies. Buy them in large quantities and store them in your cabinets as a reserve. This applies to survival kits as well.

Remove any carpet

It would be best to refrain from decorating your condo unit with a carpet during the rainy season. It will absorb moisture from the water drippings no matter how slight it is and it will take some time before it dries up.

Hang wet clothes and bags properly

If you will wash them right away after using them, you may place them inside your washing machine. But if you will wait until the next laundry day, you can place them in hangers and allow them to dry first.

Wash doormats weekly

A better option is to use a doormat made from a non-absorbent material. This will prevent any bacteria growth and it will also dry up easily compared to the regular mats. You can have two sets of mats for your condo, one for the dry season and another for the rainy days.

Conduct a weekly general house cleaning

This will prevent any mildew and molds from accumulating inside your condo unit. You can use disinfectant sprays and air deodorizer packets to keep the air smelling fresh and clean.

Regular garbage disposal

Ants and other insects also seek higher grounds during the rainy days and food wastes can attract them. Disposing of your garbage regularly will discourage them from staying inside your unit and feeding on your supplies, too.

For the condo units located on the lower ground level and in a neighborhood that is frequently flooded, prepare for the rainy season by placing all of your electronic appliances and important documents and items in an elevated spot.

Speaking of “elevation,” you won’t have to worry about a flooded home with Empire East’s newest and luxurious property for sale in Pasig-Cainta.

The Empire East Highland City is the first “elevated city” to be constructed in the Philippine real estate industry. It’s a 24-hectare property in Pasig-Cainta area consisting of residential clusters constructed in an elevated platform. This was made possible by stilts to provide a higher ground from the road levels. In fact, the “Highland Park,” which is open greenery comprised of retail hubs, a 500-seater church, and vast gardens, is elevated to about six meters from Felix Avenue.

Worry no more with a flood-free home and community during the rainy season in your own Empire East Highland City home.
